A jury found that a Floral Park father who was accused of hitting an 11-year-old girl in the face during a soccer game was not guilty of assault but guilty of endangering the welfare of a child.

The jury in the Michael Stallone case deliberated for about an hour and a half.

The families of both Stallone and the 11-year-old girl were very emotional both inside and outside the courtroom.

Stallone is accused of hitting an 11-year-old girl in the face during a soccer game last year.

According to court documents, it happened after the victim collided with another girl during the game at Mitchell Athletic Field.

Court documents say Stallone ran onto the field from the sidelines and that he struck the victim with an open hand and elbow, causing injuries.

Stallone took the stand Monday during the trial and said he never hit or injured anyone and that he was only trying to help.

But prosecutors and the girl's family say the girl's injuries to her face are from Stallone's slap, not the collision.

"Disappointed. I guess it doesn't really shock me. I knew the harder of the chares to kind of disprove would be the endangering the welfare of a child," says Stallone's defense attorney Marc Gann.

He will be sentenced next year.
