New name, who dis?

Months after being forced out of its original location to make way for new apartments, a beloved Fairfield cafe is back up and running in town with a new identity.

"We were on Unquowa Road for 17 years," co-owner Lisa Storch says. "This is a new start, a new beginning."

For nearly 20 years, Storch and her husband, Glen Colello, operated the business under the name Catch a Healthy Habit Cafe.

Earlier this year, a developer forced the shop out of its original Unquowa Road location.

Their new gluten-free organic cafe has since opened around the corner at 116 Sherman St. It's appropriately named Clean Slate.

"We're in a brand-new building and we're absolutely loving it," Storch says. "It's so nice to see all of our old customers, and we've had so many new people come in."

The local community had donated thousands of dollars to help the cafe during its tumultuous time.

"The community support has been unbelievable," Colello said.

Clean Slate also received a grant from Fairfield's town Micro-Enterprise Assistance Program, which helped cover some new equipment and other expenses.

The owners say the new coffee bar and gluten-free pizza have added new elements to their business.

"I think it was a blessing in disguise," longtime customer Raquel Garcia of Fairfield says. "I am just so happy that they get to be here and feed everyone."
