A coyote that was killed in Bergen County has tested positive for rabies, according to animal control officials.
Police say a homeowner was attacked by the coyote while working in their yard at a home on Oak Road in Saddle River.
The victim was knocked down, bitten several times and later taken to the hospital. There is no word on their condition.
The coyote, described as visibly sick, was shot and killed by police and taken to an animal hospital for testing.
The victim was with their dog when the coyote attacked them in their backyard, suffering several bite wounds.
This is the second coyote attack this week in Bergen County. The first attack happened Monday in Woodcliffe Lake.
No word if it was possibly the same coyote in both incidents.
Officials warn residents never to feed wild animals, as that tends to help them feel comfortable around humans. Wildlife experts say anyone who encounters a coyote should stomp their feet, yell and keep eye contact to scare the animal away.
