Gov. Andrew Cuomo is under even more scrutiny as a third woman has now come forward with allegations of sexual harassment.
Unlike the first two women who made accusations against Gov. Cuomo, the third woman did not work for his administration, and claims the incident occurred at a private event.
Anna Ruch tells the New York Times that in September 2019, Gov. Cuomo put his hands on her bare lower back, then grabbed her face, and asked if he could kiss her.
She says this happened at a wedding ceremony in New York City, adding that her first encounter with the governor was aggressive, leaving her shocked and embarrassed.
Rouch is now the third woman to come forward with allegations of sexual harassment in the last week. Gov. Cuomo has not addressed this third accusation.
Two former aides to the governor, Lindsey Boylan, and Charlotte Bennett, have also made claims of inappropriate behavior by Cuomo in the workplace.
Gov. Cuomo has apologized, releasing a statement saying he tends to joke in the workplace, but now understands his actions may have been “insensitive or too personal.”
An independent investigation into the allegations will be conducted by an outside law firm, and that's something both Democrats and Republicans have been demanding. "We need that kind of independent, non-political review of the facts in this case and the basics of due process -- and I look forward to hearing that," says state Sen. Shelley Mayer (D-37).
State Attorney General Letitia James is now in the process of choosing a law firm to handle the investigation.
In the meantime, calls for the governor to step down continue to grow from both sides of the political aisle.
