Police say a 4-year-old girl was killed in a two-car crash on Route 300 in the Town of Newburgh just before noon today.
Officials say a car driven by Joseph Smith, Jr., 23, crossed the double-yellow line, striking the passenger side door of a four-door sedan driven by the girl's mother.
Police say Nicolina Conklin's injuries were so severe, emergency responders had to call off the helicopter that would have taken her to Westchester Medical Center. She was pronounced dead at St. Luke's Hospital.
Conklin was the only person injured in the crash. Police say that there is currently no indication that drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash, but an investigation is ongoing.
