Clarkstown police arrested five teenagers this weekend for ?fence plowing,? or running into their neighbors? fences with the goal of knocking them down.
Police say ?fence plowing? is a new trend among teenagers and was most likely started by Internet videos. Nicholas Kurek, who lives in New City, says his family?s fence has been knocked down four times since the fall, with the most recent incident occurring two weeks ago.
?We came up and there were footprints in the snow that showed one or two guys came running out of their car and threw themselves against the fence,? Kurek says.
Police say they intend to search for pranksters knocking down fences and anyone they catch will be arrested.
Kurek says he has installed metal bars behind the planks of his fence to keep teens from knocking it down. He has also placed surveillance cameras on his property to catch the culprits. All in all, he has spent nearly $2,000.
?I will definitely catch who?s doing it and when I do, I'll definitely prosecute,? Kurek says.
The five teens arrested face criminal mischief charges.
