State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo has been elected the next governor of New York. The Democrat scored a decisive victory tonight over Republican Carl Paladino.Paladino, a political novice, trailed far behind Cuomo for most of the race.Cuomo succeeds Gov. David Paterson (D-N.Y.), who became governor after Eliot Spitzer resigned.The governor-elect's father, Mario Cuomo, became governor in 1983 and held the office until he was defeated by George Pataki in the 1994 election.
