Assemblyman resigns from Legislature to join law firm

Assemblyman Kenneth Zebrowski (D-96) has resigned from his position, effective immediately, to join Albany law firm Brown and Weinraub Advisors as a senior advisor and partner.
Zebrowski, who served 17 years in the Assembly, had previously announced earlier this year that he would not seek reelection in the 96th District.
"All good things come to an end at some point,” said Zebrowski in a virtual interview with News 12 Wednesday. “For me, I knew I wasn't going to be in elected office forever. And there was going to be a transition and this is that transition."
Zebrowski publicly announced his career change through a Facebook post Wednesday. Dozens commented thanking him for his service. Also in his resignation statement, he said his mission had been to fight for Rockland residents, and his office would remain open until his replacement is named. He plans to remain a resident of West Nyack.
"It's been bittersweet all year leaving this job that I love, but it's time for a new chapter for me. And I hope this one will be as rewarding or at least as close to rewarding as what I've been doing,” said Zebrowski when asked what it was like to announce his departure.
Zebrowski had five months left in his term.
Two candidates, Democrat Patrick Carroll and Republican Ronald Diz, are vying to succeed Zebrowski.
"It's a big loss to the residents of Rockland county and the entire state of New York,” said David Carlucci, a former Democrat state Senator for much of Rockland.
He shared insight on what happens now, like with legislation.
"So, this is a time when a lot of lawmakers are looking through a lot of the bills that Zebrowski sponsored and seeing if it makes sense if they'd like to pick it up," he says.
At this time, it appears there will not be a special election between now and November to fill the seat.
