While bargain-hunters raided big chain stores on Black Friday, the shopping madness did not translate into booming business for small mom-and-pop stores in the Bronx.
Store owners on Fordham Road say the once bustling shopping strip was much quieter during the first days of the holiday shopping season. Many add they were forced to significantly mark down their merchandise, with one store even offering three suits for the price of one to attract customers.
Local entrepreneurs say they will continue to slash prices throughout the holiday season in an effort to woo shoppers amid the economic downturn.
