Authorities believe a body recovered from the Niagara River in Buffalo is a 12-year-old Bronx girl who disappeared near there more than a week ago.
The attorney for Magdelena Labowski's family says they're afraid the body could be that of their daughter, but officials have yet to make a positive identification. Authorities say two kayakers spotted the body in the water around 10 a.m. Saturday.
According to the attorney, Magdelena went to the area with a Polish church group with 20 other kids. On Aug. 13, a worker took the group on a nature hike downstream from Niagara Falls, and the girl went down to the feel the water, slipped on a mossy rock and fell into the rapids.
Officials brought the body to the Erie County Medical Center and autopsy results are pending.
