It's been over 25 years since the Sept. 11 terror attacks, but investigators have identified another victim of 9/11.

The woman, who died in one of the World Trade Center towers in 2001, was identified through forensic investigative genetic genealogy (FIGG), a groundbreaking technique that combines advanced DNA analysis with genealogical research.

It is the second identification made using FIGG technology since August, according to Julie Bolcer, the deputy commissioner of Public Affairs & Communications for the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner.

In both cases, the woman's name and hometown are being withheld at the family's request.

Investigators use FIGG to develop identification leads through DNA and family history research, which are then confirmed through additional DNA testing and other forensic methods.

The latest breakthrough brings the number of victims identified from the 2001 attacks to 1,655.

Still, 1,098 victims, representing about 40% of the 2,753 people killed at the World Trade Center, have yet to be identified.
