Antonio Robles-Sanchez, from Brooklyn, is expected to plead guilty today to an enhanced fatal DWI sentence after a Westchester County Court judge felt Sanchez showed no remorse for his actions.
Sanchez admitted to smoking crack before getting behind the wheel of his truck in August of 2023, before he fatally struck 65-year-old Hartsdale resident Stephanie Kavourias, then drove off. Kavourias, a well-known community figure and manager of the Hartsdale Parking Authority for 20 years was at the corner of Rockledge Road and East Hartsdale Avenue. Her death sparked outrage within the community and several safety improvements have been made in the area, including red light cameras at the intersection.
Sanchez was facing one and a third to four years in state prison after accepting a deal where he pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter, leaving the scene, criminally negligent homicide and DWI.
But during the last scheduled hearing, Judge George Fufidio said he felt Robles-Sanchez did not show remorse for his actions, particularly his claim that he was unaware he had hit anything besides a bench in the crash.
Judge Fufidio gave Robles-Sanchez two choices, take back the guilty plea and go to trial, or agree to an enhanced sentence of
2-to-6 years behind bars.
The attorney for Robles-Sanchez says his client will plead guilty again and accept the enhanced charges.
