Many people are still holding out on getting the COVID-19 vaccine, and data shows it's especially true in Black and brown communities that have been hit the hardest by the virus.
Black Americans have the lowest COVID-19 vaccination rate of any racial or ethnic group in the country. A recent report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows less than a quarter of Black Americans have received at least one dose of the vaccine.
"The issue with the blood clots -- that didn't help with the J&J. That didn't help at all," said Judith Watson, director of the Mount Vernon Neighborhood Center. The center is administering about 500 doses of the Pfizer vaccine a week in a mostly Black and brown community with some of the lowest vaccination rates by ZIP code in Westchester.
Watson says misinformation and distrust are the biggest challenges.
"We are reaching people where they are. We are speaking to people on an individual basis," Watson said.
