The construction of a controversial residential building at 900 North Broadway has been put on hold after the City of Yonkers issued a stop work order.
Residents in the area have expressed concerns that the project will have a negative impact on the community.
Last week, the city council approved a zone change for the project, but further approvals are needed before construction can commence. On Monday, neighbors alerted the city after witnessing the removal of large trees on the property.
According to city officials, the developer requires a site-clearing building permit and a stormwater management plan before proceeding with the project. Violations against the developer are anticipated to be issued in response to the unauthorized tree removal.
Efforts to reach out to an attorney representing the developer for comment are ongoing..
