The state is no longer requiring domestic travelers to quarantine or get tested for COVID-19 when they arrive in New York.
Doctors say they have mixed feelings about it.
They point out that many people were probably not following these guidelines in the first place, but they do think unvaccinated people
A map created by the CDC shows most areas of the country are seeing a high rate of community transmission this week, including in New York.
For that reason, doctors say getting on a crowded airplane with a bunch of people you don't know could be dangerous.
People don't know where fellow travelers have been, how many people they've been around and if they've been careful.
News 12 spoke to an infectious disease specialist who agrees with the CDC - that it is best for unvaccinated people to delay travelling, at least for a few months or else it will delay when we reach herd immunity.
"I think it's going to be safer soon and I'm just asking people to just be a little more patient. I think pretty soon we'll be at a stage where most people will have received the vaccine. You will hopefully have the option soon of choosing an air flight where everyone has been vaccinated," says Dr. David Goldberg, MD, infectious disease specialist at New York-Presbyterian Medical Group Westchester.
Although not required now, the state still recommends people quarantine and get tested after traveling within the country.
The CDC does not recommend traveling right now, whether you've been vaccinated or not.
