The driver charged in a high-speed crash that nearly cost a Chester cop his life was found guilty Wednesday.

Daniel Mooney, of New Jersey, was found guilty on nine of the 13 felony counts against him, including assault, reckless endangerment and DWI. Mooney led police on a high-speed chase in July 2005. While police were in pursuit, Mooney turned off his headlights, made a U-turn and slammed into Officer Robert Ferrara?s cruiser. Ferrara was critically injured in the crash. Prosecutors say Ferrara?s testimony during the trial helped convict Mooney.

Ferrara is back to work and was promoted to detective in December. He continues his rehabilitation every day. Mooney could get up to 25 years for the assault conviction, which is the most serious charge. He also could get more time for the other convictions. Mooney is scheduled to be sentenced on March 9.
