After two Piermont homeowners discovered an unexploded mortar in their backyard, police are warning anyone who discovers a device not to touch it and to allow the bomb squad to respond.
The area used to be an Army base during World War II and the area was used for rifle and mortar practice.
Police say that finding the devices is rare, but advise caution since they can never be sure if the device is inactive or has become unstable with age.
No one was injured and the device was disposed of.
