Family, friends say goodbye to star Goshen athlete

Hundreds gathered at a Goshen church Monday and said goodbye to a former star student athlete who died last week from bacterial meningitis. Erin Ortiz, 18, was a recent graduate of Goshen High School.

Hundreds gathered at a Goshen church Monday and said goodbye to a former star student athlete who died last week from bacterial meningitis.
Erin Ortiz, 18, was a recent graduate of Goshen High School. She was a star on the varsity soccer, softball and basketball teams. She became sick while home from Bentley College, where she was just six weeks into her freshman year. The infection killed her within a weekend.
Family and friends said Ortiz influenced many lives in her short time and she will be greatly missed. They said they were touched by how many people attended the funeral.
