Three FDNY firefighters from Rockland County are being hailed as a
heroes after they were involved in saving lives in two separate fire rescues this week.
One happened Tuesday morning
in Washington Heights in Manhattan. As Adam Kirchman, of Pearl River,
rescued people from inside the burning building, and Jose
Castro, of Garnerville, was involved in a roof-rope rescue. The seven-year veteran of the FDNY tells News 12 it's
a once-in-a-lifetime type of rescue. "It was surreal definitely surreal.
It's something you train for, you dream about. Most people that become
firefighters it's what we want to do. We want to make an impact, save a life
and make a difference in someone's life and it's definitely a heartwarming
feeling to make that difference," says Castro
The other fire rescue happened Monday. Officials
say Hillcrest Fire Lieutenant and FDNY
member Matt Boney, also from Garnerville, and a fellow firefighter found
the three kids trapped inside a bedroom and battled flames to bring them to
safety. The kids are listed in critical, but stable condition.
