A Spring Valley assisted living facility says it’s alarm did go off during Tuesday’s fatal fire.
Fire officials tell News 12 that Evergreen Court’s fire alarm alerted residents of the fire, but there could have been a delay in contacting a dispatch unit.
The fire started at around 12:45 a.m., and a receptionist called 911 by 12:53 a.m.
The fire killed two people, including a volunteer firefighter.
News 12 is told that officials are still investigating the cause of the fire, but as News 12 has previously reported, a rabbi koshered the kitchen with a blowtorch Monday from 10 to 11 p.m.
Evergreen Court tells News 12 that they alerted the fire department ahead of the time about the blowtorch.
Evergreen Court says its sprinkler and alarm system remained intact and reacted promptly to the fire.
Rockland County’s Director of Fire and Emergency says he does not believe the entire building was sprinkled.
He and his team are working to determine if it was and other possible issues with the smoke alarms.
