A 4-year-old girl was taken to Nyack Hospital with life threatening injuries after she was struck by a van in New Square Thursday.

According to police, the girl just stepped off the sidewalk onto the street near the intersection of Bush Lane and Washington Avenue at around 2:30 p.m. when she was hit. Police say the driver of the van lives in the neighborhood. Investigators are trying to figure out how the accident happened.

Police say the girl may be taken to Westchester Medical Center for more intense medical treatment.
