The Hudson Valley was turned into a mushy mess Wednesday due to a mix of snow, freezing drizzle and rain.
The slick roads caused a number of accidents throughout the day, including one in Monroe where a Jeep slid off the road. No one was injured.
Commuters were advised to be extremely careful when hitting the roads, as the freezing temperatures have caused many areas to ice over.
Between 2 and 5 inches of snow blanketed the region in the early hours. Trucks were out salting and sanding the roads early, but the continuous snowfall made it hard to keep up.
The storm Wednesday also took a toll on a planned Regents exam that may be delayed for months after every school district in Rockland County was closed.
"I just feel happy about it, but then I'm also upset ? because then I have to wait until June to take it all over again," says Ramapo High School student Nadgia Cuirille about the second part of the Regents exam.
The state Education Department fears students could learn the answers to the second part of the test from districts outside of Rockland where the test was taken Wednesday. State officials say they are putting together options to address the problem.
