Bronx residents began to prepare Tuesday for the deep freeze heading toward the region as the city made plans to protect those most vulnerable to the cold, the homeless.
Temperatures will dip significantly Tuesday night, with the coldest weather in years expected later in the week. Residents are advised to wear extra layers of clothing to avoid frostbite or illnesses related to frigid weather.
The city's Department of Homeless Services says extreme cold weather can lead to deaths, so its outreach team is being vigilant and is monitoring the city's neediest residents.
