Gov. Kathy Hochul was in Ulster County Thursday visiting the army of first responders working to contain several fires.

Gov. Hochul praised the firefighters, forest rangers and police who came from miles around to keep the Napanoch Point fire under control.

Experts on scene say dry, breezy weather is making their jobs tricky enough, but they've also had to navigate hilly terrain with heavy equipment.

Forest-rangers and state police have been dropping hundreds of gallons of water over the fire, just south of the Ellenville airport.

They say just one structure - a hunting camp - is in danger, and that they don't expect any evacuations, as the closest home is a half-mile away.

Re-enforcements were still arriving on the sixth day of the fire.

The National Guard has been deployed, and a crew from Quebec, Canada just arrived.

They're going to help clear contingency lines around neighborhoods.

The area is a special place for many people, as well as being a Labor Day weekend destination. But state parks officials say Minnewaska is going to stay closed through the weekend, and possibly longer.
