Gov. David Paterson predicted that many school budgets throughout the state will be defeated today as he spoke with local lawmakers on possible solutions to the state's current fiscal crisis.

Paterson called today's meeting to discuss the state budget, now more than six weeks overdue. Last week, a judge temporarily blocked Paterson's plan to force one day furloughs for state workers to help prevent a potential $9 billion budget gap.

Yesterday, 14 historic sites throughout the state were shut down, including Philipse Manor Hall in downtown Yonkers, and 41 different state parks.

Paterson is reportedly considering laying off around 10,000 state workers if unions do not agree to some concessions, like the furloughs.

A federal judge is expected to hold a hearing on the plan next week.
