Greenburgh's former Parks and Recreation commissioner received a special recognition in Ardsley Thursday.
Gerard Byrne was honored with the renaming of the multipurpose center at Anthony Veteran Park.
Byrne retired last year and served the Town of Greenburgh for 37 years, with the last 34 years as commissioner.
He shared what he wants the recognition to signify.
"Like I said during my speech, I don't want today or the center to be about me. It's really to be about our community, and how it's such a special place," Byrne said .
The center now stands as the Gerard J. Byrne Center.
