High school student helps save injured hiker at High Tor State Park
A Clarkstown North High School student helped rescue an injured hiker in Haverstraw.
Multiple agencies worked against thunderstorms, rugged terrain and darkness to get 26-year-old Nicholas Houseman, of Garnerville, out of the woods at High Tor State Park.
Houseman was walking on a long trail by himself when he fell about a mile off Old Route 304.
Luckily for the Garnerville native, 16-year-old Dylan Frawley of New City, was able to find him.
"I just wanted to help," Frawley said. "I know my way around these trails and I knew I could help."
Frawley says Houseman was along and without water when he found him.
"I heard him scream so I went and found him laying down on a big pile of rocks," Frawley said.
The 16-year-old stayed with the injured hiker, directed rescuers and helped to lead them off the path.
