The much-awaited Target store in Yonkers is scheduled to hold its grand opening this Sunday, Oct. 22.
"It's now my responsibility and my team's responsibility to serve our community," said store manager Rafael Martinez.
The general merchandise retailer will open its doors at the former Sears space that closed in the summer of 2019 in the Cross County Center.
This is the latest addition to the open-air shopping center located between the New York State Thruway and the Cross County Parkway.
"People think of this as part of their community, they come here with their kids, they use our greenspaces, and we love that, and we're just going to continue to make it better and better for the community," said Marx Realty CEO Craig Deitelzweig.
The new store is roughly 132,000 square feet spread over two levels, includes both a CVS pharmacy and a Starbucks, and created roughly 300 jobs.
"I went all the way to the Bronx yesterday because I didn't think this was open yet, and I was excited to be here because it's so big so I'm looking forward [to it]," said Yonkers resident Sonia Chirurgi.
This will be the 99th Target store opened in the Greater New York City area since 1997, according to the company.
Target has other Westchester locations in White Plains, Port Chester, Mount Vernon and Mount Kisco, according to the company's website.
"Yonkers is a great place to open up a business, even in a world where box stores aren't opening anywhere, but yet they're still opening right here in Yonkers," said Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano.
The store will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
