Residents in one area of Rockland County are once again urging the Town of Ramapo to address quality-of-life issues a year after News 12’s initial report.

Thomas Carson has been a Hillcrest resident for over 20 years. He spoke with News 12 in April 2022 about some safety concerns in his neighborhood, such as one house having eight cars parked in front of it every night.

Nearly a year later, Carson is sharing the same quality-of-life concerns about some neighbors not following town codes by having trash littered properties, too many cars in yards and allegedly too many people living in single-family homes.

"In the past three years we've had two shootings, a stabbing, multiple incidents of cars speeding,” Carson says. “We are trying to get the Town of Ramapo to enforce the codes to help us maintain our quality of life."

After News 12’s report last year, town code enforcers issued violations and a few homes did comply.

Earlier this month, the town issued another round of violations and gained more compliance, yet Carson says some of the issues happen outside of normal business hours.

The town told News 12 they are willing to work on finding ways to get inspectors to check resident complaints after hours and on weekends.

"Every time we have a complaint, we have and will continue to address it. If neighbors see things that are a problem, they should tell the Building Department,” says Ramapo Supervisor Michael Specht.
