It was somber day of reflection in the jurors' room at the Rockland County Courthouse Thursday as the community marked Holocaust Remembrance Day.

There was a huge turnout as many gathered to take part in a candle-lighting ceremony with great significance.

"That the memory of the ones who perished will not be forgotten," said Holocaust survivor Trudy Album.

Millions were remembered as six candles were lit one by one to symbolize the six million who died in the Holocaust.

A seventh candle was also illuminated for humanity.

There were also candles on every seat with a name and a brief biography of a Holocaust victim.

For Holocaust survivors like Album and Paul Galan, they said events like this are meaningful and powerful.

"It's very, very important, in this community, in all communities, because people cannot be allowed to forget," Galan emphasized.

"As I'm getting older, to know that the memory of the six million, including my family will always be remember," Album added. "But mainly, mainly, no more wars!"

The remembrance follows a recent Anti-Defamation League report that revealed antisemitic attacks in New York were at a highest level in decades last year.

Album hopes this ceremony will stamp out hate.

"Please, please, wipe the word 'hatred' out of your vocabulary. You are your brother's keeper. We are responsible for each other," Album pleaded.
