Police in Port Jervis have a mystery on their hands Monday after a resident found a human skull on the roof of a building last week.
Bill Gray discovered the skull last Thursday while looking out his window. Gray, who lives behind the Schields Tire, found the skull on top of a storage building owned by the company. Schield's owner contacted police, who have given the skull to a forensic pathologist and biologist. Both have examined the skull and determined that it is of a person who was in early adulthood.
Police are looking into the possibility that someone broke into a mausoleum, stole the skull and placed it on the roof. Police are also investigating whether anyone went missing in the time period the skull is believed to be from.
