The Rockland County Sheriff Department says that an eighth-grade student at the South Orangetown Middle School was taken into custody this morning after reports that he may have brought a gun on campus.
The school was locked down around 9 a.m. and is currently being swept for weapons. It is not known whether or not the student had a real gun, a fake gun or whether he may have just been talking about having a gun.
Police from Clarkstown and Orangetown are assisting sheriff deputies at the scene.
Superintendent Ken Mitchell says that no one was hurt, and that all of the students and staff are safe.
