Members of the Rockland Immigration Coalition demanded answers today over the shooting death of a 48-year-old Haitian immigrant after a confrontation with Spring Valley police last week.
The family of Herve Gilles has now hired Manhattan-based civil rights attorney Sanford Rubenstein, stating that it would like a fair and complete investigation of the shooting.
Police involved in the incident say that Gilles was extremely violent and that a 20-year veteran of the force, whose name they have not yet released, was bitten and beaten with a stick by Gilles.
Spring Valley police say that the findings of their investigation will be presented to a grand jury on a undecided date.
