92-year-old Briarcliff Manor man continues decades-long tradition of providing music to inmates

At 92 years old, John Gallagher isn’t slowing down. He’s still using his talent, heart and music to make a difference.
Gallagher isn’t just defying age, he’s redefining purpose. Growing up in the Bronx and working for his family’s car dealership, he wanted to do more in life.
For four decades, he’s brought music and hope to the inmates of Sing Sing Prison.
"I got a hold of the chaplain at Sing Sing and I said, ‘I can come in there with a group and start a weekly group,’” says Gallagher. “The guys love me to come. They know I'm an old guy. They shake hands with me and encourage me to come. It’s good for their morale.”
But Gallagher's legacy goes far beyond prison walls. Decades ago, he worked alongside President Jimmy Carter with Habitat for Humanity, helping build homes for families in need.
He still continues to inspire, playing with his band at local nursing homes and community centers, bringing joy to seniors and neighbors alike.
"I belong to a band and we go and play for free and we call our band ‘The Men On The Hill,’” says Gallagher. “I enjoy helping people and I keep busy physically."
