Westchester County has won a major legal victory in regard to the future of Rye Playland.

On Monday a state Supreme Court judge dismissed a lawsuit filed by the city of Rye over proposed changes at the historic amusement park.

In 2015, the county and Standard Amusements struck a deal to spend $60 million to improve rides and amenities at the decades-old facility on the Long Island Sound.

Last summer, the city of Rye challenged Westchester's standing as the lead agency for projects at the county-owned park. The city maintained any construction projects that fundamentally change the park should go through Rye's land use board.

Chairman of the County Board of Legislators Michael Kaplowitz says the court's decision gives the county a clear path to move forward in transforming the popular amusement park. "The decision today was just a resounding victory. We won on every basis...every claim. And the next step is to reach out to Rye. We're hoping they don't appeal decision."

In a statement, Rye City Mayor Joseph Sack says it may not be in their best interest to pursue an appeal. At the same time, Sack says they will continue to seek the county's commitment to work cooperatively with the city as the process moves forward.
