An 8-week-old kitten is recovering from serious injuries after being found curled up inside a car's engine.
The SPCA Westchester says stories like 8-week-old Clementine the kitten are pretty common.
"They try and find a secure place and a warm space to feel secure, not realizing the danger they had put themselves in," says Lisa Bonanno, SPCA director of development.
Gabriela Denis, of SPCA Westchester, says she knows of a few people who have had incidents where they're driving and the cats have fallen out.
Luckily, Clementine was heard and found in the nick of time, but she did sustain serious injuries.
"She's resilient. It's going to be quite a few weeks, and she's most likely going to need surgery on her leg," says Bonanno. "One-third of her body unfortunately has second-degree burns, so that requires pretty much constant care."
SPCA Westchester hopes to have her up for adoption in the following months.
Clementine is spending her days between SPCA for her medical care and at a foster home at night.
