Local municipalities and utility companies are preparing for the possibility of ice as part of Friday's storm.

"When there's ice, it's very hard to combat because you can't plow or nothing. So, we have to use chemicals. And what happens with all highway departments, is it's going to be a very expensive storm because of the chemicals," says Town of Haverstraw Highway Superintendent George Wargo.

Wargo is referring to magnesium specifically, which he says they have about 400 tons of at the Town of Haverstraw's Highway Department in Thiells.

Central Hudson wants to remind people to stay away from downed electric wires, too.

"And with an ice storm like this and tree branches falling, to assume that power lines may have been entangled and are hiding in down lines. And that if you do see downed lines, to assume that it's live," says Joe Jenkins, of Central Hudson.

The utility company says they will have a crew of about 380 at the ready for Friday between internal crews, contractors and mutual aid from Indiana.
