A summit was held at Rockland Community College Tuesday to discuss ways to fund a new $16 billion Tappan Zee Bridge amid a recession.
"We're absolutely going to pursue every potential federal dollar New York deserves for this project," says Michael Anderson, of the New York State Department of Transportation.
The project would replace the 53-year-old bridge with a larger span that will have express bus service and commuter rail lines.
Orangetown Supervisor Thom Kleiner is concerned that both parts of the project may not be fully funded, but without the mass transit option, the new bridge could end up being choked with traffic.
