Firefighters in New Jersey were on high alert Tuesday due to dangerous conditions statewide. Dry air and wind make conditions perfect for hot spots.
At least 14 fire departments assisted the Teaneck fire department when a brush fire popped up south of Degraw Avenue between Route 95 and Teaneck Road on Tuesday night. Despite heavy winds, the flames were contained with crews staying through the night to put out hot spots.
The brush fire in Cape May County spread flames across 1.5 acres of campgrounds in Upper Township after multiple camper vans went up in flames at a private campground in Oceanview.
In Brick Township, a helicopter carried water and dumped it on a large brush fire near Alameda and East Coral Drive. Some residents living nearby were evacuated. No one was hurt.
Officials have sent out warnings for residents to be careful when discarding cigarettes or any other items that produce flames.
