The Nassau County SPCA is offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of a person accused of
dumping six cats in Massapequa.
LI Cat and Kitten Solution said they were alerted on Saturday after someone passing through the Sunrise Mall parking lot found a cat underneath a car.
The next day, two more cats were found by a clothing donation drop-off bin. On Monday morning, another was found during the day and one that had frozen to death was found later that night.
The animal advocate group said they were all found near the east side of the parking lot near Carmans Road. The five surviving cats were severely malnourished.
Officials said the rescued cats are overly friendly, indicating they likely had human contact and were not strays.
LI Cat and Kitten Solution's John Debacker said two of the cats were taken to the Town of Oyster Bay Animal Shelter, two were taken to Last Hope Animal Rescue and the last one is still with John.
Nassau County police confirmed they've been in touch with LI Kitten and Cat Solution and are investigating.
The Nassau County SPCA is asking for anyone with information to contact them at 516-THE-SPCA.
