Neighbors of a Warwick man accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend to death are in shock over the allegations.
Police say 51-year-old Julio Valle-Santos stabbed his ex-girlfriend Gloria Molina-Rivera, 47, dozens of times and slit her throat inside her Tall Oaks apartment Thursday night. Vale-Santos was arraigned Friday, when he claimed his innocence.
Valle-Santos? neighbors say they are shocked by the allegations. ?[I?m] totally shocked,? a neighbor says. ?He was a great person. I?ve known him a long time.? None of the suspect?s neighbors wanted their names to be revealed.
?I?ve never seen him in a violent mood. I never heard him raise his voice,? another neighbor says.
Neighbors say they were also surprised to hear that Valle-Santos had a girlfriend, since he?s been living with a woman for years who they assumed was his wife.
?He?s lived with his [wife] ? I don?t know if it?s common law or whatever ? and they?ve been fine,? a neighbor says. ?He has a couple of kids.?
Middletown police say Molina-Rivera reported a vandalism to her car a week before she was murdered. She told officers she thought it was Valle-Santos since he was upset about the breakup. Police say they were unable to charge Valle-Santos for the vandalism since they had no proof that he did it.
Molina-Rivera is survived by her two children.
