Newburgh Board of Education names incoming school superintendent

Orange County's largest school district has a new person in charge, following a national search.
The Newburgh Board of Education named hired 24-year career educator Dr. Jackielyn Manning Campbell its superintendent of schools effective July 1.
Manning Campbell is the assistant superintendent of Student Support Services in the New Rochelle City School District and previously worked as a teacher, principal and administrator in Mount Vernon, White Plains and New York City.
She said she is ready to take on the challenge.
"I am excited to collaborate with the dynamic staff in the district to continue the work that they cultivate and lead," Manning Campbell said Thursday.
She believes in setting high expectations, being transparent and values equity.
"We will ensure that every scholar gets an opportunity to become tomorrow's leaders," Manning Campbell said.
Former Newburgh Superintendent of Schools Dr. Roberto Padilla was suspended last August after a former Newburgh educator accused him of sexually harassing her at an out-of-state conference in the summer of 2021.
A second former educator came forward with similar allegations two months later.
The district reached a six-figure resignation settlement with Padilla last December, which included full pay and benefits until December of next year.
The two women at the center of his resignation recently filed a lawsuit against him, the district and the board, which is still ongoing.
The district did not comment on the investigation into Padilla.
Since the settlement, Newburgh has faced a wave of student violence and educational concerns.
Manning Campbell hopes to alleviate that.
"With education, support, values and dedication anything is possible," she said.
