Police in Newburgh are warning residents to be on the alert for a cash scam that already duped a woman at a grocery store.Police say to start the scheme, two women find a target. The women tell their victim they found an envelope stuffed with cash and ask if it belongs to the person they?ve targeted. When the victim says no, the suspects suggest they split the cash, but say they can't deposit the cash because they don't have bank accounts. The scammers then tell their target they can have all the money in the envelope in exchange for some of the victim?s own money. According to police, the two women used this tactic on a woman in a grocery store parking lot on September 5. Surveillance video caught part of the scam. Police say when the victim took out her own bank envelope with about $1,000 to trade with the scammers, the suspects snatched it and took off.

Police say if something sounds too good be true, it probably is. Police are hoping to find the two women on the surveillance video.
