A Newburgh man has been convicted in connection with a violent assault earlier this year inside the Kohl’s store in the Town of Newburgh , which was partially caught on cell phone video and shared with News 12.

Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler announced on Thursday that Ronnie Williams, 55, of Newburgh, was found guilty by a jury of third-degree assault for the January 2025 attack.

According to prosecutors, the incident began when a woman in the store became angry after employees refused to process a return as she wanted. She then called Williams, who was waiting in a vehicle outside, and told him to come inside to “beat everybody up.”

Williams entered the store and struck a female shopper in the face. A 22-year-old Sephora employee who tried to intervene was grabbed by Williams , who slammed her into a counter -- injuring her ear, neck, and back.

Following the verdict, Williams was remanded to the Orange County Jail in lieu of bail and is scheduled to be sentenced on December 2, 2025.

District Attorney Hoovler praised the Town of Newburgh Police Department for its quick response and thanked the victim for her courage in testifying.
