Some drivers in Nyack say
they end up with parking tickets even when they pay via machine or Park
Mobile app.
News 12 is told despite
having time left on their meter, several drivers were ticketed anyway.
“You can see I was given a ticket on May 10 at 1:28
and here’s my receipt from the parking,” says Bill McCloskey, of Nyack. “It was from 12:51 and to
expire at 1:51.”
Nyack parking lots are under one zone and street parking is under a
different zone. For reasons unknown, the app is glitching, which is leading to the tickets.
Comments on a Nyack Facebook page reveal that the inaccuracy has
happened to a least six other
people.
Resident Elizabeth Shikiar tells News 12 despite paying for parking through the app, she's still received two tickets since
January. Shikiar says she’s familiar with tech support and knows how to use the
app.
“The app tells you what zone you're in, I tapped in the app [the zone] I was
supposed to be in,” says Shikiar. "It’s parking. It shouldn't be
complicated.”
The ticket drivers are receiving
is $15, and McCloskey believes it’ll drive away much needed business.
“People are afraid to come
into Nyack if they think they’re going to get a ticket," says McCloskey.
"Even if they paid, they might get a ticket so it’s very hard on local
businesses.”
News 12 reached out to the
village mayor for comment but has yet to hear back.
