It has been a full work week since nurses remain at the picket lines, demanding fair contracts for nurses at five private New York hospital systems. On Thursday, hospital executives and reps from the New York State Nurses Association went back to negotiations with a mediator for help. About 15,000 nurses have been on strike all week, calling for better working conditions, pointing to overcrowding in emergency rooms, inadequate patient to nurse ratios, and people being hurt on the job. They also want better pay and benefits. Montefiore says the unions demands are reckless, adding it would cost the hospital more than $3.5 billion to grant them what they're asking for. After Thursday's discussions, New York Presbyterian is doubling down saying "the unions proposal remain unreasonable."

A Montefiore spokesperson tells News 12 there is no meeting scheduled between NYSNA and the hospital today.

NYSNA will be meeting with mediators and management at Mount Sinai Hospital and Mount Sinai Morningside West today.
