While much of the nation’s focus was on the mass shooting at the Brooklyn subway station on Tuesday, gun violence was present in other parts of the city.

Just hours after the shooting in Sunset Park, a total of nine people were shot in the Bronx. Three people were killed, while four people in Brooklyn were shot and are recovering.

Police say 21-year-old Jessie Bynum was fatally shot in the head on Olinville Avenue around 10 p.m. Three other people were also shot. They were rushed to the hospital and are expected to be OK.

Around the same time last night, there was a shooting near the intersection of Burke and Cruger avenues. Police say a 22-year-old man was shot and is in serious but stable condition.

There was a shooting around 8 p.m. near the intersection of Sheridan Avenue and McCellan Street. Police say 23-year-old Sally Ntim was fatally shot in the head. Officers say she was sitting in her car when she was gunned down.

Just 15 minutes earlier, police say there was a fourth shooting in the Bronx near the intersection of East 180th Street and Mohegan Avenue. Officers say 22-year-old Wayne Godwin was shot several times. He was rushed to the hospital and later died. Two other men were also shot but are in stable condition.

There were two other Brooklyn shootings, including one near the intersection of Gates and Marcy avenues. Police say three men were shot but all are in stable condition.

There was also another shooting on the 900 block of East 86th Street. One man was shot in the chest but is expected to be OK.

No arrests have been made in any of the six separate shootings yet.

City leaders say these shootings show more work needs to be done to stop the flow of illegal guns into the city. "We need help from the state and federal government. We've seen individuals from other states basically gun trafficking, bringing guns into the city and sending them into New York. Basically, inundating the entire city with guns and causing the chaos that we're seeing," says City Council Member Oswald Feliz.
