A Lewisboro fireworks celebration last month ended with a Rye Brook police sergeant facing attempted assault charges.

Paul Damore was named in a criminal complaint after a woman said a vehicle sped past her and her daughter before getting stuck in traffic. She said she approached the car and banged on the window.

She said Damore then got out and attacked her.

"Put both of his hands, around my neck, cursed at me, and threw me against a pickup truck that was right behind me and held me there and then grabbed my arm and in the process hit my face so that my glasses ended up broken," Elisabeth Cavanagh said.

Damore pleaded not guilty in court. His lawyer had no comment.

A Rye Brook police official said Damore has been with the department since 2011. He is due back in court next month.
