The NYPD is for the first time sharing new information about crime in the city's public housing buildings.
A detailed crime analysis specifically for NYCHA complexes is now just a click away. Residents can look online at the number of reported crimes each week, broken down by housing complex. The data also includes comparisons so it's easy to monitor if crime is on the rise or decline.
According to the latest data, crime in public housing increased 31 percent between 2009 and 2013, compared to a 3.3-percent increase throughout the rest of the city.
In terms of crime citywide, the recent NYPD statistics show homicides are down 15.5 percent, but shootings are up 13 percent this year compared to last.
