A man is recovering after being stabbed inside a deli in East Flatbush early Thursday morning. Police are now searching for the person responsible.
The incident happened around 5 a.m. at a deli on Church Avenue. According to investigators, two customers got into an argument inside the store when one of them pulled out a knife and stabbed the other before running off.
The 30-year-old victim was stabbed in the chest and arm. EMS rushed him to Kings County Hospital, where he is expected to recover.
For a few hours the store was barricaded off as police worked to gather evidence, with blood droplets seen on the door handle and ground outside.
People who live in the area say incidents like this are frustrating but not surprising.
"It’s unfortunate, but things like this happen," said Ronald Nesbit. "There’s police and security around, but the streets can be unpredictable. Last night was peaceful—then I wake up to this - to be honest I'm not surprised," he continued.
Another neighbor added, “I'm sorry to hear that somebody got injured because it's really upsetting that we can't keep our neighborhood safe these days,” said Paula Easton.
The man who ran off was last seen wearing a black jacket, black pants, and black Crocs. Police say he drove away in a silver sedan.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
